Keeping Web Site Content Current, by George Rogers Posted 05/21/01 Any web site is only as good as the information it contains. Keeping published information current is an ongoing battle for most web authors. This is why it is best to organize your web site directory structure by function. Create separate directories for the following examples; calendars, newsletters, events, images by function, sub groups within departments, and more. Organize the web site directories to make it easy to navigate and find information. Create a structure only 2 to 3 levels deep. A wider structure is easier to maintain than a deep one. Remember: Your web site is being viewed by a World Wide audience. Helpful Hints - Hints Archive Animation's, by George Rogers Posted 06/28/01 There are multiple methods used to animate graphics. One method is an animation with a series of images imbedded within a GIF file (Example: Spotlight ). Another example would be the execution of Java Script (Example: Don't, Pencil, Flash) within a HTML page which will load images into a given region on a web page with a delay between images set in seconds. These are the most popular methods for creating simple animated graphics. Note: Web pages should not be overly graphical or animated without a purpose. If using animation's, make certain that the file size is small. Animation's can interfere with printing, loading and navigation mechanisms. Constant motion can be very annoying to some users who are trying to read the page. Looping animation's causes a constant loading cycle to be performed. Animation's should be used only if they add clarity to the information or content being presented. Frequently Asked Questions Answers to your web design and publishing questions.
